Peter preaching in the house of Cornelius, a Roman centurion, said, “You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (Acts 10:38)
Preaching the gospel of the kingdom was his priority, but with it He also met the needs of the people. He provided food for the hungry, healing for the sick and deliverance for the oppressed. The apostle Paul recognizing this important ministry of the Lord said to the Ephesian believers, “We are God’s workmanship; we are created by Him in Christ Jesus for good works - good works which God prepared for us long ago that they should mark a way of life” (Eph.2:10). It is God’s wish that people provided for those who are in need.
Some years ago, the Holy Spirit impressed this important Biblical truth to Mrs. Savita Nair, who began giving most of her earnings to the poor people in Lautoka. After doing this ‘good work’ alone for some time, she challenged the leaders of Ambassadors for Christ to get involved in this ministry of help. The Board accepted her challenge and added Christian Helps as another avenue for the Gospel ministry. At present, we have Rev. Richard Krishna who is the Deputy Executive Director of Christian Helps.
